Emily Selvin Grew Up Surrounded by Art

Her family has a long history rich in fine art, music and writing. Her parents collected antique glass and Emily is sure that seeing the beauty of glass harnessing the sunlight every day as a child is what has influenced her artistic path to work in stained glass. Her grandfather Ben Selvin, big band leader received three gold records from RCA Victor for his music and her father was a jazz musician, journalist and editor.

Her educational background is diverse. Emily studied textile technology engineering. Her studies brought her to Italy, England and France. This is where she realized she had a passion for the arts and immersed herself studying botanical painting, silk weaving and silk manufacturing. Eventually her passion for art led her to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

Her first commission in leaded glass came from a woman who visited her studio and immediately commissioned her to design stained glass windows for her. The woman was an Episcopalian Bishop, and Emily’s first commission was for the Episcopalian Church. Emily is passionate about restoring stained glass. Her studio’s mission is to help organizations save and preserve the historic treasures of the stained glass they are stewards of.

Since that first commission, Emily’s studio has been recognized by numerous publications, including the Philadelphia Inquirer, The Bulletin, Arts And Crafts Home and the Revival magazines and HGTV television. Her commitment to high end craftsmanship and superior design is some of what is mentioned in these articles. Selvin Glass works within developing constructions as well as historic environments to create glass that envelopes and complements the architecture. Her designs exist harmoniously with their surroundings, they are quiet and peaceful. She enjoys working with her clients and values their opinions while designing and fabricating their windows.

Emily’s studio is located in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. To arrange a studio visit, or for a consultation about your organizations windows or your residential glass needs please email her at emily@selvinglass.com.
